Sometimes we parents expect a lot of ourselves. We live in the illusion that a mistake, or a good choice on our part, will make the difference in the world for our children. But it is much more complicated.
Parenting may be the single most crucial factor in what our children learn and how they live their lives. But there are many other factors that parents have little or no control over. Which can also have a profound effect on the outcome.
We have seen friends and colleagues who did not have proper, mental and physical health grace for their children. We have seen the physical and emotional cost it had taken. The extraordinary sadness that comes with these loss and the life changes associated with it. When a child is sick, and uncertainty prevails, nothing else matters in the life of the parent. When your children are healthy, it is easy to assume that good health makes life easier for children and parents.
The current generation of parents, who are involved in the evolving challenges of technological and economic change, may not feel the same kind of security that our older generation felt. This type of stress and uncertainty will have an impact on family health interactions and planning for the future.
Life is beautiful
If your children are healthy, their life choices are reasonable, and your relationship is a healthy one, you should know that you are incredibly blessed. If any of these factors are missing, take into account those who are present in your life and lend support to those who are less fortunate.
